Since inception in May 2018, we’ve done an annual Back-to-School program catered to either Georgia college students or Georgia K-12 students, but this year, we are catering our Back-to-School program to Educators.

During The Higher Salon Pilot in the 2025-26 academic year, we strategized on how to best provide accessible haircare services to Georgia K-12 students. We decided at the end of the pilot that we will offer our services under a pay-what-you-can model, and parents/guardians are encouraged to donate to our organization after their child’s appointment if they have the financial ability to do so. We are scheduled to launch The Higher Foundation Program soon for this upcoming academic year by August 2026.

Through serving students during the pilot, we realized we did not have any projected income to cover the program expenses, including the salon suite rental fee, hair supply costs, and hair product costs. To ensure our program is sustainable, we want to create a steady source of income by providing affordable haircare services to Teachers, Administrators, and Social Workers.

Our program goal to promote confidence in the classroom extends beyond the students to also include our classroom leaders. Extending our services to our frontline workers is mutually beneficial in the following ways:

  • Teachers, Administrators, and Social Workers can receive affordable haircare while supporting a great cause.
  • Teachers, Administrators, and Social Workers can feel appreciated and seen which will boost their morale in the classroom.
  • Teachers, Administrators, and Social Workers can advocate for our services to their students and professional network.
  • Teachers, Administrators, and Social Workers can help us generate income for our program to continue serving K-12 students.

Based on the demand of “Back to School Educator Edition”, we will decide how often we will offer affordable haircare services to our frontline workers on a regular basis.
